What A Nimrod

Ever said or heard someone say, “what a nimrod”?

Ironically, the origin of nimrod has a completely different meaning.

I was listening to Genesis 10 this morning on my way to the med school, and this part came on:

Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord; therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.” (v 8-9)

I’ll be honest, I chuckled at that a little.

Anyway, so I urban dictionary’d it, and apparently the term “nimrod” came to mean “moron” when Bugs Bunny started calling Elmer Fudd a “poor little nimrod”!

So next time you call someone a nimrod, you’re actually calling him/her a “mighty hunter”!

And that’s your fun fact for the day!
